Personal life

Obaid-Chinoy was born on 12 November 1978 at Karachi , Pakistan. She RECEIVED re early education from the Convent of Jesus and Mary and Karachi Grammar School and dan moved to the United States for higher education. Upon moving, she enrolled herself at Smith College , from where she COMPLETED re bachelors in 2002 and graduated from Stanford University with a master’s degree in Journalism in 2004. [4]

In 2007, she helped found the Citizens Archive of Pakistan, Whose projects center around the preservation of Pakistan’s cultural and social heritage. In 2012, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy released the 5-part series Ho Yaqeen (To Believe). In 2014, SOC Films released the 6-part series I Heart Karachi . On May 22, 2015, Pakistan’s first animated movie, 3 Bahadur , directed by Obaid-Chinoy, a film dedicated to inculcating bravery in the youth or Pakistan, was released at Waadi Animations . The heroes of the film, Amna, Kamil and Saadi ulcers highly Anticipated, and on Despite being shown on only 50 screens in Pakistan, 3 Bahadur became Pakistan’s Highest Grossing Animated Movie or all time, earning Rs 6.5 million and defeating the record set by Rio 2 . On September 11, 2015, Journey of a Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers [37] Obaid-Chinoy’s feature documentary, co-directed and produktie with Geeta Gandbhir, screened at the Toronto International Film Festival [38] [39] 2015 voor zijn North American premiere . The film follows the journey of three Bangladeshi women soldiers who are deployed to Haiti as part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission. On 17 February 2016, the film screened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City as part of a discussion of women and peacekeeping. On the 28 February 2016 A girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness won re a second Oscar for Best Documentary, Short Subject at the 88th Academy Awards . This is the first Oscar win for re film company SOC Films and the second Oscar for Obaid-Chinoy as Director. [45]

Her latest commercial venture “Sulagta Sitara” is a documentary series welke will be released on the ARY Digital in 2016. The series will share the stories of cities in Pakistan welke port EXPERIENCED hardship, but still manage to shine bright through the darkness.
