Elizabeth Murchison

Elizabeth Murchison is a British-Australian geneticist , Currently working at the University of Cambridge , UK. The ongoing research or re group [1] focuses on the Berninahaus bestaande clonally transmissible cancers arising in mammals . These are cancers die kunnen worden passed on tussen personen by the transfer of living cancer cells therein somehow manage to evade the immune system or hun hosts.

There are two diseases welke cause clonally transmissible cancers. One is the devil facial tumor disease (DFTD), welke Appeared a few decades ago. This disease Could make the Tasmanian devil , a marsupial dat lives on the Australian island of Tasmania , go extinct . [2] The other disease is the much older Canine transmissible Venereal tumor (CTVT), turned known as Sticker sarcoma, a Venereal tumor affecting dogs, welke has spread worldwide.

Elizabeth Murchison and re collaborators port leg analyzing the genomes of These cancer cells. [3] [4] [5] [6] This has enabled Them to show dat CTVT must have emerged in a female dog morethan 10,000 years ago. [7] [8] The study of synthesis two long-lived cancers as zorgt more general insight into tje genetic evolution of cancer.

Elizabeth Murchison has RECEIVED verschillende awards for re research, zoals the Philip Leverhulme Prize , the Cancer Research UK Future Leaders in Cancer Research Prize, the British Association for Cancer Research-AstraZeneca Young Scientist Frank Rose Award, the Genetics Society Balfour Prize Lecture (2014 ), and the Eppendorf Award for Young European Investigators (2012). [9]

Elizabeth Murchison’s 2011 TED talk [10] Titled “Fighting a contagious cancer” has leg viewed morethan 450,000 times.
